A Matter of Life or Death

A Matter of Life or Death

I had half an hour to get to church. I had given our son the task of packing his backpack so he had some things to do during the service.  I went to grab my keys and phone so I could pack my own bag.  That is when I noticed the message lit up on the screen. “I have some bad news…”

A dear family member was advising me of the sudden and shocking passing of their friend who had taken their own life.

I had known this person for many years.  We were not close at all, but we were acquaintances. However, reading the text message knocked the wind right out of me and I sunk onto my bed and the tears began to flow.

Have you figured it out yet?  Have you realised just how much of a battle we are in?

There are two sides to this battle.  The black and the white, the bad and the good. The darkness and the light, sin and righteousness.

Satan vs Jesus.

The Bible describes Satan as a thief.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. ~ John 10:10

Satan finds ways to enter lives and helps them only see the darkness, to only see the negative and the hopeless. He takes life and snuffs it out.  He destroys families and steals joy.

You might think it is a bit crazy to talk about Satan. You think I might sound a little bit nutty if I want to believe that he exists.  He likes that.  If you won’t acknowledge him and his existence then you can’t prepare yourself against him.  If you have no defense then you are an easy target.

If Satan is the black not the white, he is the bad not the good, he is the darkness and the sin and this battle is against his opposite, then, Jesus is the white (clean), the good, the light and the righteousness.

The Bible described in John 10:10 that he is a thief!  It then goes on to describe Jesus as being a giver. Satan steals and Jesus gives!

I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. ~John 10:10

Not only does he give, but he gives LIFE!  Not a half-filled life, but one filled to the brim.

Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, a battle is going on.  It is a spiritual battle but it affects us in our day to day happenings.  It is a battle that is after our souls, our relationships and our families.

I need you to know just how important it is to know what side you are on.  To accept LIFE and to the FULL, you need to choose Jesus.  You need to have a conversation with him asking him to help you.  He is waiting with open arms.

Not choosing Jesus, means you are on the other side and you are wide open for Satan to cause havoc in your life.

The truth is, there is a battle but the victory is already Jesus’.  He defeated SIN and DEATH on the cross. That has not stopped Satan from trying to steal as many lives as he can until Jesus comes again.

I know my life is hidden in Christ.  I am safe in him.  When my earthly body dies I will live with him in eternity and until then His peace remains in me.

You need to choose.  Your life depends upon it.

If you would like to choose Jesus and choose the life he wants to give you, I encourage you to pray this prayer.

Dear Jesus,

I believe you are the light of the world.  I believe you came and took my sins and nailed them to the cross. Thank you for dying on the cross for me.  Thank you for rising again and defeating sin and death.  I want to follow you and I want the life you want to give me.

In Jesus name,

Amen

If you have just prayed that prayer for the first time, it is so important to share this great decision with another mature christian.  Try to link up with a church community as soon as you can so they can help you learn more and keep going in the faith.  If you don’t know any other christians, please send me a message.  I would love to chat with you and help you connect.
