Where Is My Easy Faith Journey Please?

Put your hand up if you would like an easy faith journey?

My faith journey has been going for about 32 years or so.

On Monday morning, I am going to wake up and be 37 years old.  How did that happen?

I remember being 7 years old and getting a castle birthday cake.  The towers of the castle were upside down ice cream cones and my mum had filled the cones with sherbet lollies.

Now, here I am, just shy of 37 years, married to a loving strong man, mum to a gorgeous, much prayed after boy, starting my own business and somehow, somewhere along the way, I became a grown up.

There have been many days where I wished there was a very detailed book on how to navigate this life, point by point, step by step.  You know, to make this faith journey easy, calm and peaceful.

I know, I know, all the christians reading this are thinking….um, Megan, there is!  It’s called the Bible!

I will be the first to put my hand up and say the Bible and my relationship with Jesus is my most valuable resource to wading through this life.  I don’t mean to complain or anything God, but I am after something EVEN more detailed! Something that would make it really easy to keep walking in faith.

Let me give you some examples of scenarios and the kind of detailed responses from God I am looking for:

Scenario 1

When you are given news, at your 20 week scan of your much prayed for first baby, that there are some issues and you should be on the look out for premature labour from this point forward.

Detailed Answer

Please send me a sign from heaven that states word for word this message:

“Dear Child, you have nothing to worry about.  Your beautiful little boy will be strong and healthy and you will carry this baby full term.  The doctors do not know what they are talking about.  Go home doing cartwheels on the way.  Everything is going to be textbook fine.”

God’s Answer

Me:  Are you there God?
God: Yes.
Me: Did you hear what they said?
God: Yes.
Me: Is our baby going to come early?  Will we lose the baby?
God: Read the Bible and pour out your heart to me.

Scenario 2

Finances are T.I.G.H.T. (and tight is a generous description.)
Jobs seem to be impossible to get and every day as you look at your young family, you pray that today will be the day God will do a miracle and answer your prayers.

Detailed Answer

“Dear Child, never fear!  I hold all the wealth in my hands and tomorrow I will give you the job of your dreams. You will not have to sell your house, you will not have to declare bankruptcy and you will not have to take your children out of the private christian school.”

God’s Answer

I love you.  I will never leave you.  Trust me with your future.

Scenario 3

You fought hard for your marriage but it eventually breaks down.  You are concerned about how you will support yourself and your children.  You worry about the impact the divorce will have on your children.

Detailed Answer

“Here is $500 to pay the bill you have not yet received next week.  The kids will have a few bumps in the road but will breeze through this chapter of their life.”

God’s Answer

I know all things.  I know why you left.  I know what was broken.  I am going to heal you. Any bills that come in are just that – just bills.  I am God.  Cover your children in prayer and don’t stop looking towards me.

So, Where Is My Easy Faith Journey, Please?

I can’t be the only one who would jump at this, right?

Walking in faith with Jesus is one of the easiest and hardest things you will ever do.

It is easy because here he stands.  He has a love that is unconditional, pure and all encompassing.  There is no fear in Him because He is perfect love.  The Bible says perfect love drives out all fear.  Driving out fear is exactly what he did when he defeated sin and death on the cross.

So why is it so hard?

Having faith and following Jesus can be the hardest thing to do because we still live on this side of eternity. We are still a work in progress.

I don’t know about you, but fear still creeps into my heart sometimes.  It still will until the day I am made absolutely complete in Him.

Would I like this faith journey to be a bit easier?  Umm, yes please!

Will I stop following Jesus and living my life for him because it is hard?  No way.

He is the Way the Truth and the Life and once you have experienced that everything pales into insignificance.

Hard or not, I need Jesus to be able to walk each day of this life.

Whether you know it or not yet, I hope you realise you need Him too.

If you don’t know Jesus, but want to ask Him to be your Saviour, I encourage you to pray this prayer.

Dear Jesus,

I know that you are Lord of all things.  I thank you for coming and dying on the cross.  Thank you for saving me from my own sins.  Please forgive me and please help me live for you from this day forward.

In Jesus name, Amen.

If you just asked Jesus to be your Saviour for the first time, I encourage you to find another Christian (preferably someone who has been a Christian for at least 5 years) and tell them.  It is so important to get connected in a christian community so you can learn and grow and have support as you follow Jesus.

If you do not know anyone who is a Christian, please contact me!  I would love to chat with you and help you with your next steps.

Your blog has been such a blessing to me today when I really needed it. The challenges you describe on your faith journey are so similar to many of mine, and it’s been wonderful to read your words of faith through tough times. Thank you for what you do, and please keep writing!
